Grandparents'/friends' Day
We had so much fun with our Grandparents and Grandfriends today!! We did all sorts of things with them while they were in the classroom with us. We showed them our art work & computer work, we interviewed them and showed them our school garden. Then we performed a concert for them. We sang three songs: Inside Out, Count on Me and Mama told Me.
MAP Testing
On Wednesday, we completed the MAP testing in Math. The entire class went up a total of 217 points from the Spring of 2013 to the Spring of 2014. That is a huge improvement!! Hip hip hurray!!
Writing
Today we turned back the calendar to 1862. We had a town meeting in the Ye Olde Quaker Meetinghouse where we read our letters to President Abraham Lincoln. We pretended to be abolitionists, soldiers and freed slaves. We wrote very convincing letters to the President about ending slavery. Take a look!
Reading
Our final read-aloud class book is a mystery called The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin. Samuel Westing has died and his family has gathered to hear the reading of his will. To every one's surprise, Mr. Westing has set up a contest for his family. At the end of the contest, Mr. Westing's murderer will be revealed and the winner of the contest will become a millionaire!
Math
Some of us are working on a computer engineering program with Mrs. Wolinsky called Scratch. We are learning how to program games and drawings.
Students who aren't working on Scratch are working on a Doggie Dilemma packet. We need to pick a dog, figure out how much area is needed for the doggy play area and how much the dog fence will cost.
Thanks for reading our blog! We hope you enjoy your three day weekend!
